Jiacheng Liu grew up reading about 开核 (core unlocking in early AMD processors) in Chinese computer magazines. After he taught himself Portuguese in high school, he learned a few GPU modification techniques from a few Brazilian modding legends. Endowed with such a mentality, he never believes in the artificial limits set by the manufacturers: he likes it when the only performance-limiting factor in his computer is his own skill. For years, he was pondering for questions such as “what if we put a TITAN core on a 1080Ti” or “can I make TITAN RTX run with faster memory.” When he got his first job at college, he immediately poured most of his salary to explore questions like these: while he doesn’t mind planning and thought experiments, he much more prefers getting his hand dirty (or sticky with flux) with some real works.
And thus began Jiacheng’s rather unconventional way of chasing the overclocking leaderboard through deep customization. From reading schematics to BGA soldering, Jiacheng gradually started his transition from an overclocker into an engineer. Upon finishing college, his close ties with hardware manufacturers motivated him to join the computer industry full time. This is when entrepreneurship stemmed from his engineering ambitions: Jiacheng’s founded Thermetery Technology not just for his personal endeavors; he wishes to deliver fellow hardware enthusiasts with the absolute best hardware — not just the best hardware that one can buy at a store, but the best hardware that money can build and customize.
Now, Jiacheng serves as the CEO of the two parallel entities of Thermetery in both HK and the US. While he is done with college for now, he is not done with learning. He taught himself HVAC and refrigeration and obtained his EPA Section 608/609 certificates. He then immediately put them into use in development of prototyping Thermetery’s cooling solutions. He chose the Latin motto rem tene, verba sequentur (grasp the subject, the words will follow) from Cato the Elder for the company, only to change verba (words) for cetera (all the rest), because he regards the understanding of the subject matter as paramount to the business.
In his spare time, Jiacheng enjoys driving. For the sole purpose of hauling more LN2, he holds a Class A CDL with HazMat+Tanker+Double-Triple (XT) endorsement. He studied linguistics at UC Berkeley, still maintains a few language databases at his alma mater, and will gladly provide services in English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Tibetan.
